look up the dictionary
‘look up the/a dictionary’历来被中国老师、也被老外认为是个错误的短语。葛传规主编的《英语短语动词词典》（上海译文出版社1982年版）收录此用法。
其实，L. G. Alexander在他的《新概念英语》第2册第2单元后的试题里就有：
Perhaps it(指对话中的书) is (an exciting story), but it's too difficult for me. I spend more time looking up the dictionary than reading the book.
2008年8月份，我在论坛上从澳大利亚和新西兰老师那里得到令人满意的答案：这种用法在他们那里很常见。
这个句子见于英国语料库（美国语料库里没有这个说法）：
It was only when I got home and looked up the dictionary that I realised what a gem it had been. |
