《本-拉登传》是第一部由本-拉登家族成员——首任妻子纳伊瓦和第4个儿子奥玛记录的本-拉登恐怖分子演变史。据书中透露，纳伊瓦15岁时就嫁给了时年17岁的表兄本-拉登，第4个儿子奥玛则陪同拉登度过了6年的流亡生涯，二人成为了解本-拉登的关键一环，他们见证了拉登如何从严谨持家的阿拉伯男子变成丧心病狂的恐怖分子的过程。在本书执笔人、研究阿拉伯超过30年的专家简-莎森的帮助下，纳伊瓦和奥玛终于能够鼓起足够的勇气，向读者揭示了恐怖之王很多不为人知的隐秘，美国《华盛顿邮报》因此评论说，本书的价值远远胜于美国中情局的情报分析。

“9-11”后神秘失踪

纳伊瓦还在书中透露，自己是在“9-11”事件发生前两天才带领两名子女离开了阿富汗从而得以幸存，而她与拉登所育的其他6名子女则未被允许离开，并在“9-11”事件发生后与拉登失去了联系。

纳伊瓦1974年嫁给本-拉登，是拉登五个妻子中最大的一个。到2001年离开本-拉登的时候，她共为拉登生育了11名子女，其中3人在成年后离开了拉登，而纳伊瓦则是直到“9-11”事件发生前夕才以身体为由请求本-拉登允许其离开阿富汗回到家乡叙利亚。纳伊瓦在书中说自己对于丈夫的恐怖袭击计划一无所知，而她最初曾希望带4名最小的子女离开，而本-拉登只允许她带走两人。在纳伊瓦离开之前，本-拉登曾对她说：“纳伊瓦，我是永远不会和你离婚的。即使你听别人说我和你离婚了，那也不是真的。”

儿子眼中的父亲：

恨敌人超过爱儿子

奥玛作为本-拉登的亲生儿子，也逃不过受训成为“人体炸弹”。上世纪九十年代初，拉登曾将所有家人都带到沙漠戈壁，让他们挖洞过夜，为的是“将来可能会有一天，你们找不到避风港，身上也没有毯子取暖”。拉登妻儿还在书中披露了拉登私生活的一些细节，比如他不允许家中有任何现代化的物品，对死去多年的父亲念念不忘等。

谜团一：本-拉登和其亲人从未去过美国。

事实：1979年，本-拉登和纳伊瓦带着最大的两个儿子去过美国印第安纳，此次行程中，本-拉登还曾独自前往过洛杉矶。

谜团二：本-拉登是左撇子。

事实：本-拉登不是左撇子。他之所以多用左手只是为了掩饰自己的右眼因为幼年的一次事故而近乎失明的事实。

事实：本-拉登的健康状况很好。只是受困于肾结石以及偶尔复发的疟疾，后者是他在阿富汗与苏联战争期间感染的。
