Whenever I read the words above ,I would be deeply moved by the man in the poem, Yitzhak Rabin ,the previous prime minister of Israel .<p></p></font></font></span></p><p class="MsoBodyText" style="MARGIN: 0cm 0cm 0pt; TEXT-INDENT: 24pt;"><span lang="EN-US" style="COLOR: black;"><font face="Times New Roman"><font size="4">Rabin was born in Jerusalem in 1922.In 1941,he joined the palmach section of the Haganah,and rose to the position of Chief Operations Officer in October 1947.In 1964 he rose to the position of Chief of Staff in the Israel Defense Forces(IDF).Under his command, the IDF achieved an overwhelming victory over Egypt,Syria and Jordan in the Six-Day war in 1967. During the war-time, his brave and patriotic made him get higher rank.<p></p></font></font></span></p><p class="MsoBodyText" style="MARGIN: 0cm 0cm 0pt; TEXT-INDENT: 24pt;"><span lang="EN-US" style="COLOR: black;"><font face="Times New Roman"><font size="4">On June 2, 1974, he was elected Party leader and succeeded Golda Meir as prime minister of Israel. During Rabin’s premiership, the government placed special emphasis on strengthenin the economy ,solving social problems and reinforcing the IDF. In the National Unity Governments(1984-1990),Rabin serverd as Minister of Defense. In 1985,he presented the proposal for the withdrawl of IDF forces from Lebanon and the establishnent of security zone to guarantee peace to the settlements along Israel’s northern border. In 1992,he was elected as chairman of the Israel Labor Party. Rabin played a leading role in the sining of the Oslo Accords, which created the Palestinian Authority and granted it partial control over parts of the Gaza Strip and West Bank. Prior to the signing of the accords, Rabin received a letter from PLO Chairman Yasser Arafat renouncing violence and officially recognizing Israel,and on the same day ,Rabin sent him a letter officially recognizing the PLO on Sep 9,1993. For his role in the creation of the Oslo Accords, Rabin was awarded the 1994 Nobel Peace prize.<p></p></font></font></span></p><p class="MsoBodyText" style="MARGIN: 0cm 0cm 0pt; TEXT-INDENT: 24pt;"><span lang="EN-US" style="COLOR: black;"><font face="Times New Roman"><font size="4">On Nov 4,1995,Rabin was assassinated by a right-wing radica who had strenuously opposed Rabin’s signing of the Oslo Accords. Today, Rabin is remembered by most as Israel’s great man of peace, despite his military career.<p></p></font></font></span></p><p class="MsoBodyText" style="MARGIN: 0cm 0cm 0pt; TEXT-INDENT: 24pt;"><span lang="EN-US" style="COLOR: black;"><font face="Times New Roman"><font size="4">He was a soldier who died because he was a man of peace. He was a warrior for his nation’s freedom and a martyr for his nation’s peace.<p></p></font></font></span></p><span lang="EN-US" style="FONT-SIZE: 12pt; COLOR: black; FONT-FAMILY: 'Times New Roman'; mso-fareast-font-family: 宋体; mso-font-kerning: 1.0pt; mso-ansi-language: EN-US; mso-fareast-language: ZH-CN; mso-bidi-language: AR-SA;"><font size="4"> When I saw the picture of victims in the war ,I would think of Rabin. His eyes ,which almost saw the lamb dwell with the wolf , suddenly hang on the wall of blood on the way, to the heart.</font></span> |
