NPC approves vice-premiers

The 1st Session of the 11th NPC held its 7th plenary meeting on Monday afternoon,approving Li Keqiang,Hui Liangyu,Zhang Dejiang and Wang Qishan as vice-premiers of the State Council.The deputies also voted for five State councilors,ministers,heads of commissions,governor of the People's Bank of China,auditor-general ofthe National Audit Office,and secretary-general of the State Council.They also voted on the draft name list of chairmen,vice-chairpersons and members of eight special committees of the 11th NPC.

Asian stocks tumble

Asian stocks plunged Monday after JPMorgan said Sunday it would acquire troubled US investment bank Bear Stearns at $2 a share,and The Federal Reserve took bold action Sunday evening by cuttingits discount rate to 3.25% from 3.5%,signaling to investors the depths of the credit crisis.Japan's benchmark Nikkei 225 index sank 3.7% to closed down5.18% at 21084.61 points.

Poultry bird flu confirmed

An outbreak of bird flu in poultry has been reported in Guangzhou,the Ministry of Agriculture said Sunday.The National Bird Flu Reference Laboratory confirmed the case,which occurred at a market in Liwan District of Guangzhou Thursday.it was caused by the highly pathogenic H5N1 subtype of the avian influenza virus,the MOA said.The disease,which killed 114 domestic fowl and led to the culling of another 518,has been brought under effective control.
广州确诊禽流感疫情

中国农业部新闻办16日发布消息，3月13日，广东省广州市荔湾区金花新市场发生疑似禽流感疫情。3月16日，经国家禽流感参考实验室确诊为H5N1亚型高致病性禽流感疫情。 此次疫情共死亡家禽114支，扑杀家禽518只。目前，疫情已得到有效控制。
