常听到人们说go fifty-fifty，意思是平分，以可以说go half-half，即中文里的"二一添作五"；而在We'll go by six by six.里，六乘六是指一种六轮汽车；
Seven times seven did I take coucil with my soul.
我一而再，再而三地扪心自问。
这里的七乘七，既不是说身高，也不是汽车，而是指多次扪心自问。
在汉语里，三思而行用英语说三则便成了二：Think twice before you leap.；三心二意是：be in two minds；乱七八糟是：at sixes and sevens，如：
There's a regular shindy in the house: and everything at sixes and sevens.
屋里乱极了，一切都是乱七八糟的。
十全十美是：to the nines，如：
The whole family were dressed up to the nines when they left for the wedding.
全家人都身著盛装去参加婚礼。
十之八九则是：ten to one，如：
Ten to one he has forgotten it.
他很可能已经忘了。
◎The two were just six and half a dozen.意思是：
1他们俩个平分了所得。
2他们俩个半斤八两，不相上下。
3他们俩个都是六英尺高。
