富 歇 的 名 单

On Napoleon's escape from Elba and return to France in 1815, French minister of police Fouche, who had been making overtures to the victorious allies, turned his coat with his customary promptitude. During the Hundred Days he was employed in compiling a list of those whom Napoleon intended to punish once he had reestablished his ascendancy.

After Napoleon's defeat at the Battle of Waterloo, this list was something of an embarrassment to its compiler, particularly when it fell into the hands of foreign minister Talleyrand, whose name was course on it. Running his eyes over the list, Talleyrand remarked, "One must at least do him the justice of acknowledging that he has omitted none of his friends."

一 八 一 五 年 ， 拿 破 仑 逃 离 厄 尔 巴 岛 ， 回 到 法国 。 法 国 警 察 部 长 富 歇 当 时 正 和 战 胜 的 盟 国 打 交 道 ， 但 他 向 来 善 变 ， 马 上 易 帜 ， 在拿 破 仑 卷 土 重 来 那 一 百 天 ， 致 力 拟 订 黑 名 单 ， 把 拿 破 仑 准 备 重 振 声 威 就 要 惩 处 的 人列 进 去 。

滑 铁 卢 战 役 拿 破 仑 败 北 之 后 ， 这 名 单 难 免 令 富 歇 有 点 尴 尬 ， 特 别 是名 单 落 入 在 外 交 部 长 塔 列 朗 手 中 。 塔 列 朗 的 名 字 当 然 也 在 名 单 上 。 他 看 了 一 遍 ， 说： 「 我 们 对 富 歇 须 公 平 一 点 ， 至 少 也 得 承 认 ， 他 连 自 己 的 朋 友 都 写 了 进 去 ， 没 有 一个 遗 漏 。

【 附 注 】 Turn one's coat （ 把 外 衣 翻 转 ） 原 指 士 兵 败 阵 时 反 穿军 服 以 求 脱 身 ， 引 伸 解 作 「 变 节 」 或 「 改 变 立 场 」 ， 名 词 turncoat 指 「 变 节 者 」， 例 如 ： Donald Tsang is a typical turncoat who has switched from being loyal to the British to being loyal to the Chinese communists （ 曾 荫 权 由忠 于 英 国 变 成 忠 于 中 共 ， 是 个 典 型 变 节 者 ） 。
