        背景介绍:

On July 22th, 2013, the birth of an infant drew attentions from all over the world. This boy – strictly speaking, a royal baby – is destined to be extraordinary for he is cradling the third in line to the throne of Great Britain. Hundreds and thousands of journalists were waiting outside the St Mary's hospital, in hopes of taking pictures of their future king.

Meanwhile, the London was a riot of colour and sound. Various celebrations of royal birth had taken in the capital. Crowds gathered throughout the day at Buckingham Palace, where the queue to photography of the official birth bulletin mounted on an easel in the forecourt. Central London shuddered as a 41-gun royal salute by the King's Troop Royal Horse Artillery pounded Green Park and a 62-gun salute by the Honourable Artillery Company was fired from Gun Wharf at the Tower of London. The bells of Westminster Abbey pealed for a solid three hours… In keeping with the festivities in British, Other commonwealth countries, such as Australia, Canada, New Zealand and so forth, have hold celebrations.

Back to the April, 2012, the Royal Wedding hit the headline of Newspapers worldwide. The word 'Royal' seems to have a magic that always draws public’s attention, especially in Britain. So this week’s topics are:

1.How do you reckon people's obsession of 'Royal Events'? Does it have any special meanings to the British people?

2.Except for monarchy, there are many other symbols of Britain. As an English Learner, how many world-famous British symbols do you know? And how do you think about it?

Strange as it may seen, in such an enlightened and democratic country like Great Britain, monarchy still has its unique charisma and enjoys an incredible popularity amongst ordinary British people. As far as I am concerned, three factors contribute this popularity.

Firstly, as we all known, Britain is one of the few countries that still maintains a strict hierarchy system in its society. Besides, royal families, without any doubt, are aristocrats, who, apparently, have a noble social statues and rather different life. These difference make royal families mystery and attractive to the public. Furthermore, at those hard times in WWII, royal families showed great courage. They chose to stay with their people or even fought at the front line against the Nazi army rather than escaping from the warfare, which encourage the public greatly. I think that might be the reason why people in Britain adore the royal family. And lastly, the royal family is a symbol for the British people, which represents the glorious time of empire. Many Briton today still have a complex of revival of British Empire. They cannot afford an empire without a king or queen.

        范例2:

In England, the Glorious Revolution of 1688 led to a constitutional English monarchy restricted by laws such as the Bill of Rights 1689 and the Act of Settlement 1701, although limits on the power of the monarch ('a limited monarchy') are much older than that. However, power limits seem to provide the royal family with citizens’ adore and admiration. A number of British citizens are fond of chasing after the fashion led by the family including clothing, etiquettes, cuisines, and so forth. British politicians, however, are sometimes notorious for various reasons and such resentment is probably due to disrupting laws and orders imposed by the authorities. Owing to the difference in power, British usually hold a cordial conversation on jokes about a certain prince during the tea time while making continual complaints about bad decisions made by the government on dinner tables.
