While demand for computers slows, the world's biggest PC maker is only getting larger.

Lenovo started the new year with a bang: net income rose 23 per cent to $214m, beating estimates at $197m as operating profits surged 40 per cent to $283m and sales rose 18 per cent to $10.4bn.

联想为今年第一季度交出了极具冲击力的成绩单：净收入增长23%，达到2.14亿美元，超出此前预期的1.97亿美元；营业利润激增40%，至2.83亿美元；销售额增长18%至104亿美元。

The Beijing based company said its first quarter results achieved record performance "across all lines of business."

It's the world leader in PCs and the fourth-biggest maker of smart phones.

联想在个人电脑市场全球占有率第一，还是全球第四大智能手机制造商。

China accounted for 36 per cent of quarterly revenue, while the Americas made up 22 per cent. Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA) accounted for 27 per cent.

一季度营收中，36%来自中国，22%来自美国。欧洲、中东和非洲则贡献了联想收入的27%。

In PCs, shipments grew 15 per cent from a year ago, "the fastest among the the top five players in the fiscal quarter," even as global shipments overall declined by 1 per cent. In EMEA, shipments expanded a whopping 51 per cent.

尽管全球个人电脑总体出货量下滑了1%，联想出货量同比还是增长了15%——“在五大厂商中增速最快”。而在欧洲/中东/非洲区，联想个人电脑出货量增长达到了惊人的51%。

In smartphones, shipments grew 39 per cent to 15.8m devices, driven by growth in China and emerging markets.

Amid concerns of oversaturated markets and longer replacement cycles, Lenovo said it sees "plenty of opportunities for profitable growth, particularly as the industry continues to consolidate."

尽管人们对PC市场过度饱和、产品更新换代周期变长感到担忧，联想仍表示：“包括个人电脑及平版电脑的广义个人电脑行业将继续为联想带来盈利增长的机遇，尤其在行业处于整合过程时”。

It plans to expand its mobile business "aggressively" in emerging markets, with help from Motorola Mobility, which it purchased in January for $2.9bn.

联想计划在摩托罗拉移动(Motorola Mobility)的帮助下，“积极开拓”新兴市场的移动业务。今年1月，联想斥资29亿美元收购了摩托罗拉移动。

Lenovo also seeks growth in communication networks and data centers, after its $2.3bn purchase of IBM's low-end "X86" server business. The acquisition, still subject to regulatory approval, should give Lenovo "immediate scale and credibility" to capture growth, it said.

此外，联想还希望在斥资23亿美元收购IBM低端“x86”服务器业务后，在通信网络和数据中心领域取得增长。目前，这一收购仍需得到监管机构的批准。联想表示，该交易“可即时扩大联想在服务器市场的规模及声誉”。
