President-elect Donald Trump describes NATO as "obsolete" and says that other European Nations will likely to take a cue from Brexit and leave the European Union.
In a joint interview with two European publications, The Times of London and Bild, published Sunday, Jan.15th, Trump explained that he felt NATO was obsolete because “ it wasn’t taking care of terror."
Trump later added that the alliance “is very important to me,"but indicated that only five countries including the U.S. are footing their fair share of the bill.
German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier responded Monday, saying that Trump’s characterization of NATO was met with “astonishment and agitation" within the alliance.
Trump also said that Britain’s decision to leave the EU would “end up being a great thing" and predicted that other countries would follow suit, saying that “countries want their own identity,"
