How come "lie" could be added a color "white"?

Well, you can't imagine what it means. It means "善意的谎言”. Interesting? Sure it is.

Now, we know “说谎话” is "tell a lie", so we could say "tell a white lie to somebody".

Sample sentence:

A: What did you tell your wife about lending so much money to your classmate?

B. I told her a white lie. I said I've invested it in a big project.
