中文中，对于替补队员，我们往往会说“坐冷板凳的人”。而在英文中，替补也和“bench”离不开。“让某人做替补”就可以说成keep someone on the bench。而如果从“替补队员”成为“上场队员”就可以说成come off the bench。

知道了动词表达，我们再回顾一下我们之前所学到过的一个名词——benchwarmer。Benchwarmer是指没有太多机会的替补队员。当benchwarmer用在体育之外的其他地方时，它还表示为“等待接替别人的人”。
