November 21, 2006 -- After reaching the NBA Finals in June, the Mavericks were the fashionable pick to win the Western Conference again this season.

Then Dallas started the year with four straight defeats and everyone jumped off the bandwagon like Rutgers football fans after a loss to Cincinnati. Two weeks later all is right with the basketball universe, as the Mavericks have run off six straight victories and as usual, Dirk Nowitzki is leading the way. Welcome back, Dirk. Who needs time off to rest following a grueling season where Dallas went toe to toe with Miami for six games before coming up short in its quest for an NBA title? Obviously not Dirk, who is playing arguably the best hoops of his career.

Nowitzki spent the summer dominating the FIBA World Championship. Now he is showing off the talent that makes him one of the top five players on Earth. The Western Conference Player of the Week has posted five straight double-doubles. During the Mavericks' hot streak, he has scored at least 24 points in each game. For the season he is averaging 25.6 points, 10.2 rebounds and 3.1 assists. What makes Nowitzki so special is that he is a shooting guard with the body of a center. The seven footer is connecting on 49 percent of his shots from the field and 90 percent from the foul line. Here are the player rankings for the week of Nov. 14 through Nov. 20. On Monday, he was chosen as the Eastern Conference Player of the Week and his Nike commercials show that the 21-year-old can do a lot more than just ball.

3. Zach Randolph, Portland PPG RPG APG SPG BPG FG% FT% 25.8 10.7 1.6 0.9 0.5 .483 .837 Last Week's Rank - 3 If the Portland big man keeps playing like this, somebody is going to create a more catchy nickname for him than "Z-Bo".

4. Tim Duncan, San Antonio PPG RPG APG SPG BPG FG% FT% 23.0 11.4 3.3 0.6 1.7 .566 .598 Last Week's Rank - 7 Yao may be the top center in the game, but Duncan showed why he is considered the best big man Sunday, when he posted 35 points and 14 rebounds against the Kings.

5. Yao Ming, Houston PPG RPG APG SPG BPG FG% FT% 26.4 10.3 1.8 0.7 1.7 .516 .862 Last Week's Rank - 4 The individual numbers are there for the superstar. Now we need to see if the Rockets can keep pace with the Spurs and Mavericks for state bragging rights.

Not too many players are capable of posting one game with 20 points and 20 rebounds, let alone back-to-back outings. He had 24 and 21 against the Bobcats on Saturday and 24 and 23 vs. the Grizzlies on Monday.

8. Emeka Okafor, Charlotte PPG RPG APG SPG BPG FG% FT% 20.1 12.0 1.7 1.2 4.1 .575 .485 Last Week's Rank - Unranked According to Elias Sports Bureau, Okafor joined Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Patrick Ewing and Hakeem Olajuwon as the only players to average 20 points, 12 rebounds and four blocked shots after the first 10 games.
