Internet Quality Education to Save 'Internet Children'
A recent survey shows that young people in Beijing spend an average1 of three hours every day surfing the internet during the winter and summer vacations, and around one hour after school during term time. The Beijing News Daily says the statistics indicate2 these young Beijingers are fast becoming 'internet children'. It claims the negative effects of the internet can affect them as they spend more and more time exposed to "unhealthy information". The newspaper says that current measures taken to minimize3 the Internet's impact - such as censoring internet information and reminding parents to protect children from the Internet's worst excesses, are not fully successful. It suggests that high-quality Internet education should be adopted4 in primary and middle schools. Such an education it says, already offered in some developed countries, may help children to cultivate independent thinking when dealing with Internet information.
