金山词霸 (Kingsoft) is OK for beginners, but even then you may end up with one of two incorrect concepts ingrained in your head. (E.g. Kingsoft says "cannot" is two words in American English, that's simply incorrect. Read: "cannot is one word"

If you know more than a few thousand words, you should rely on an English to English dictionary. If you have to rely on an English to Chinese on-line dictionary, try http://lividict.org/lividict == A word about those "on-line translations", "machine translation", and "software translation." They simply do not work. Even the simplest sentences produces incoherent results. I have examine several of them netat, babble fish,...etc and the results are all the same: incoherent. |
| One more word about online translators, software translators etc. Don't fall for the hype by the sellers--they just want your money. Dr.eye, Gold Mountain (Kingsoft)...whatever. They simply do not work. Can you guess what "raw and death but" is? Give up? It is a software translation of 不是生与死!
