The top-grossing film of the year earned nearly unanimous critical rapture plus Oscar nominations for
animated feature, adapted screenplay, sound editing and original song (Randy Newman's "We Belong
Together"). It might also plausibly have been cited for cinematography, art direction and costume design.
But TS3 has no, repeat no, chance of winning Best Picture — because it's a cartoon! Academy members,
most of whom make their living in live-action film, surely admire the work of the Pixar studio, but they
don't understand how it works. Maybe they think director Lee Unkrich and his team are some cute alien
species: toys that make toy movies. |
