align=left>第六期总结：本期节目难度很高，属于长难句翻译，翻译的关键是正确分析句子结构。下面我对两个句子进行简单的分析：

(1) The eruption certainly happened, but there is less consensus about his suggestion that it helped form the basis for what are now known as humanity's racial divisions, by breaking Homo sapiens into small groups whose random physical quirks were preserved in different places.

that 引导的分句修饰suggestion；for what引导的分句修饰basis；by … 修饰form；it helped form the basis for sth by sth

（2）It is based on a piece of evolutionary theory called the founder effect, which shows how the isolation of small populations from larger ones can accelerate evolutionary change, because a small population's average characteristics are likely to differ from those of the larger group from which it is drawn.

第一个which shows how the … evolutionary change引导宾语从句修饰theory；because引导的句子与It is based on … theory并列；from which it is drawn 中的 it 指代 theory。

They have always had their critics, but corporations are having an especially hard time making friends of late. Scandals at Enron and WorldCom destroyed thousands of employees' livelihoods, raised hackles about bosses' pay and cast doubt on the reliability of companies' accounts; labour groups and environmental activists are finding new ways to co-ordinate their attacks on business; and big companies such as McDonald's and Wal-Mart have found themselves the targets of scathing films. But those are just the enemies that companies can see.（1） Even more troubling for many managers is dealing with their critics online—because, in the ether, they have little idea who the attackers are.

Mike Kaltschnee's site, HackingNetflix.com, became a force to be reckoned with for Netflix, a video-rental outfit that delivers to people's homes. When Netflix said it was not interested in Mr Kaltschnee passing on questions from consumers, he posted the exchange online, hurting the firm's reputation among loyal customers. The company now treats him much more respectfully and his site has gained a large following.

（2）Increasingly, companies are learning that the best defence against these attacks is to take blogs seriously and fix rapidly whatever problems they turn up.

对许多经理来说更麻烦的是应对在网上批评他们的人，因为在网上他们几乎不知道这些攻击者是谁。 

这些公司逐渐认识到对付这些攻击的最好防御办法就是认真对待博客，并且对攻击者找出的任何问题都快速的解决。

For the time being, America's monetary policymakers think that their economy is still running pretty well. （1）This week, as Alan Greenspan handed over the chairmanship of the Federal Reserve to Ben Bernanke, the Fed marked the end of Mr Greenspan's 18-year reign by raising interest rates for the 14th consecutive meeting, to 4.5%. The central bankers also gave Mr Bernanke more flexibility by softening their policy statement: they said that further tightening “may be needed” rather than “is likely to be needed”, as before.

Most analysts expect the Fed to raise rates once or twice more, although the economy slowed sharply in late 2005. Real GDP growth fell to an annual rate of only 1.1% in the fourth quarter, the lowest for three years. （2）Economists were quick to ascribe this disappointing number to special factors, such as Hurricane Katrina and a steep fall in car sales—the consequence of generous incentives that had encouraged buyers to bring purchases forward to the third quarter. The consensus has it that growth will bounce back to an annual rate of over 4% in the first quarter and stay strong thereafter.

第八期总结：这一期中，第二个句子翻译情况不够好，下面把该句简单讲解一下。

更重要的是，那些实际并迫切的问题越来越明显是野生动物或者人类应在何种程度上对家禽中传播感染负责任。 

 作者认为这类病毒的传送被保持下来，主要是通过家禽和家禽制品的运输而不是通过鸟类迁徙。
