align=left>第九期总结：这期的两个句子完成情况不太好，下面简单分析一下：
（1） More significantly, it is increasingly apparent that the real and most immediate issue is to what extent wild birds, or humans themselves, are responsible for the infection's spread in poultry.
<o:p></o:p>
这个句子本身并不难理解，出错最多的是对to what extent 的理解，这个短语的意思是“在多大程度上”，理解了这一点，这个句子就比较容易翻译了。
<o:p></o:p>
译文：更重要的是，那些实际并迫切的问题越来越明显是野生动物或者人类应在何种程度上对家禽中传播感染负责任。<o:p></o:p>

（2） The authors suggest that such transmissions are perpetuated mainly by the movement of poultry and poultry products, rather than by migrating birds.
<o:p></o:p>
这个句子也不难理解，出错点主要是两处，perpetuated 有“永恒的”的意思，但这里需要翻译成“保持”才能使译文语句流畅；rather than 的意思是“不是”比如 sth is A，rather than B 要翻译成“是A而不是B”。
<o:p></o:p>
译文：作者认为这类病毒的传送被保持下来，主要是通过家禽和家禽制品的运输而不是通过鸟类迁徙。

couple这里不是“两次”的意思，而是指“比尔盖茨夫妇”。nomination的意思是“提名”。

HITHERTO, the world's worst tyrants have usually managed to avoid being brought to court for their crimes. Some, of course, were killed. Hitler took his own life. But Stalin and Mao died in their beds. Pol Pot, responsible for the slaughter of 2m Cambodians in the 1970s, lived on in Cambodia until his death in 1998. Idi Amin, Uganda's brutal dictator, saw out his days in comfortable exile in Saudi Arabia; Ethiopia's Mengistu Haile Mariam continues to live in Zimbabwe. The list goes on. But with the spread of international justice over the past decade, the noose is tightening. （1）It is now accepted that there can be no immunity for the worst violations of human rights, not even for heads of state.

Serbia's president, Slobodan Milosevic, was indicted for war crimes in 1999 and is likely to be sentenced to life imprisonment when his trial ends later this year. After ten years on the run, Ratko Mladic, the Bosnian Serb army chief held responsible for the Srebrenica massacre, is expected to be arrested any day. In Chile, Augusto Pinochet is finally facing a real possibility of trial 17 years after the end of his dictatorship. Hissène Habré, a ruthless ex-president of Chad, exiled in Senegal for the past 16 years, could soon be extradited to Brussels to face trial for crimes against humanity under Belgium's “universal jurisdiction” law. Polish prosecutors are preparing to bring charges against Wojciech Jaruzelski, their last communist leader. And Saddam Hussein, Iraq's former dictator, faces near-certain execution at the end of his trial before a special tribunal in Baghdad.

Debate has long raged about the best way to deal with gross violations of human rights. Is it more important to punish the perpetrators or to bring an end to the atrocities? （2）Can one, in other words, secure both justice and peace, or are the two naturally antagonistic?

换句话说，一个人可以既维护正义又捍卫和平么？或者说正义与和平这两者原本就是对抗性的？

这句中，大家对naturally的翻译五花八门，naturally的意思有“天生地、原本地、天然地、本能地、容易地、不夸张、不做作地”，但是在这里，应该取“天生地、原本地”这个意思。

参考译文：换句话说，一个人可以既维护正义又捍卫和平么？或者说正义与和平这两者原本就是对抗性的？

CBS's move is one of many recent efforts by traditional media companies to try to develop “new media” revenue streams. Music firms have sold their material online for a while. Newspaper and magazine publishers are busy trying to attract readers on the internet. （2）But now the world's largest entertainment companies are rushing to distribute their video content online and, to a lesser extent, to the users of mobile phones.</o:p>
