follow: is the comprehensive term, and often implies the lead or guidance of one going before, but, in itself, gives no clue as to the purpose of the one that follows: ~ a path to town.


chase: implies speed in following, sometimes in order to catch what flees and sometimes to turn or drive away what advances: ~ing the boys out of the orchard.    又如a car chase汽车追捕，是为了追上前边的车，to chase out of=chase off=chase from表示驱赶赶走


pursue: ususally suggests an attempt to overtake, reach, or attain often with eagerness and persistence, sometimes with hostile intent: ~d the bandits on foot.  


trail: implies a following in the tracks of one gone before: ~ along behind the leader.    trail足迹脚步


follow跟着: 泛指跟随前边的导引，无论目的，chase追赶: 表示快速，追赶或驱赶，pursue追逐: 想要追赶或达到或获得，表示热情不懈，也可表示追赶土匪等，trail跟随: 指跟随前边人的足迹
